What does AFUE mean?
Just like AC units have SEER ratings that determine their energy efficiency, so do water heaters and heat pumps have something called AFUE, or annual fuel utilization efficiency.
Also similar to the SEER ratings, the higher the AFUE of your heat pump or heater, the less fuel will be going to waste. This form of rating calculates how much fuel escapes the home or business and how much is actually used in the process of heating the house. In the days of old, pumps and heaters could hardly go above 70% efficiency as the technology back then was fairly limiting. These days, however, high-efficiency heaters use various methods to contain the fuel and can therefore reach an efficiency rating of nearly 100%. Does that mean a boiler with a close to 100% AFUE rating is the perfect choice for your home? Yes and no. While an electric boiler isn't going to waste almost any fuel, there's still the price of electricity to consider – these devices can use a tremendous amount of electricity which simply isn't a great choice in an area with heavy winters. There's also the size to think about. Because they require additional parts to keep the fuel inside, high-efficiency heaters are usually much larger than their cheaper counterparts with a lower AFUE rating. Therefore, if you have a smaller home, a mid-efficiency heat pump could be a great and economic choice. Call Us: 830-476-766424/7 Emergency Services Available

Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) - Boerne, TX
While our company name might have customers believing that we deal exclusively in AC repairs in installation, we dabble in every form of indoor temperature control and air ventilation, and heat pump systems are just one of the things on our service list.
If you have an old heat pump with a low efficiency rating, it might be high time to replace it with a new and improved model. You could be spending close to half the fuel you currently do for the same amount of heating if you bought a modern furnace, so long as you know what to pick.
We can help – replacing the old with the new is one of our team's specialties, and it's especially pleasing to do when we know it's going to drastically improve a customer's energy efficiency and therefore lower their utility bill considerably.
If you can't find the AFUE label on your current heater, don't worry – a Boerne Air Conditioning Technician can make a quick arrival and see how much fuel your heater is wasting and whether a new heater is in order. As we're making this decision, we'll take various things into account, such as the size of your home, the price of your other utilities, the length of the winters in your area and so on.
